Father’s Day Special: Men Benefit from Massages Too!

Did you know that in July 2013, the American Massage Therapy Association reported that only 11 percent of men had received a massage within a twelve-month period?

With Father’s Day just around the corner, it is time to convince the men in your life that they can benefit from massages too! In addition to a massage relieving overall back and muscle pain, here are a few more facts you can share with dad when you present him with a massage coupon this Father’s Day:

1. According to the Clinical Journal of Pain, people with chronic neck pain reported a 55 percent improvement after ten neck massages over ten weeks.

2. “In a 2010 study from Sweden, one 80-minute hand-and-foot massage significantly lowered people’s heart rates, cortisol levels, and insulin levels—all of which help lower stress” (Men’s Health).

3. A massage paired with conventional constipation medicine has been proven to relieve patients from constipation faster than if the medicine was used on its own.

4. A sports massage can help relieve muscle tension and increase hip-flexor range of motion. If the men in your life frequently exercise or enjoy intense workouts, encourage them to schedule a massage.

For the entire month of June I will be running a Father’s Day special! With kids home for summer, the endless yard work, and numerous outdoor recreational activities in Fort Collins, now is the perfect time for dad to have some quiet time to relax and de-stress.

Treat your favorite men to something special this Father’s Day and take advantage of this offer before June 30!

Allergy Medication for a Massage this Spring!

As the weather continues to warm up in Fort Collins and the flowers continue to bloom, allergies seem to be getting the best of everyone!

While your initial response may be to stock up on antihistamines and nasal sprays, consider massage therapy as an alternative to allergy relief this spring.

“Massage therapists can help relieve some allergy symptoms by reducing stress, increasing circulation, releasing muscle tension and reprogramming the body’s panic reaction, which can exacerbate symptoms” (American Massage Therapy Association). Many patients also find relief from just lying face down.

In addition, self-massage techniques can help with immediate relief. Try massaging the area on your face where your cheek and nose meet with modest pressure and while taking deep breaths. You can also put pressure on the space between your eyes and nose if you are experiencing pain.

Most importantly though, remember to get enough sleep and eat a healthy diet. It could also be time to clean out your home of allergens and dirt from the winter. While allergens are the cause of your discomfort, symptoms can increase with stress and unhealthy habits.

If you are not experiencing any relief, come see me for a relaxing massage that is sure to relieve your pressure and congestion!

Do You Struggle With Posture?

Correct Your Posture with a Massage!

If you sit at a desk all day, I would almost bet you struggle with neck and back pain. Is this true for you? If so, it is because of your posture. While sitting in one position can never be great for your body (consider taking brief walks outside throughout your work day), it can also negatively affect your body’s alignment.

Good news though – massage can help improve your posture!

Think about when you are sitting at your desk. How often do you hunch forward to read your computer screen and type? When we hunch, our body is no longer aligned – hence the oncoming pain.

Massages though can help to loosen tight muscles and release pressure throughout your body. While desk work can cause stress in the body, a massage helps you to relax and allows your body to realign and breathe.

Additionally, massages help to improve posture by  increasing circulation. As you begin to incorporate massages into your routine, you will notice your body naturally realigns into correct alignment.

If you are not yet convinced, here are some of the benefits of great posture:

  • It increases muscle strength and energy levels
  • It improves blood circulation and allows for easier breathing
  • It can boost your confidence and help you appear taller and slimmer

So what are you waiting for?! Aside from feeling relaxed, a massage can be just the trick to ridding your body of aches and pains from too much desk work. Schedule an appointment today!
